Bullied teen loses 200 pounds, finishes half-marathon

Edgar Hernandez was not prepared for the shock he would get at just 16-years-old.

That’s when doctors told him he was pre-diabetic.At the time, he weighed 370 pounds and couldn’t even stand to look at himself.

Edgar was seeing a therapist for depression and was frequently the target of bullies.

Hernandez said, “I tried my best to ignore it but there were times when I just gave in and started crying.”

Everyone in his family had suffered with weight issues.

His parents developed type 2 diabetes in their 40s but Edgar was the biggest.

After receiving the results, Hernandez decided to own up to his weight problem.

He said, “It was time to stop blaming others for my choices and make a choice to take responsibility.”

A year and a half ago, he began jogging and only made it a half a mile before he threw up.

He started walking before and after school and started trying to run whenever he could.

He changed his eating style with the help of his family.

Edgar says he didn’t have a specific diet or calorie count; instead it was all about portion sizes.

Edgar went on to drop nearly 200 pounds and traded his double XL shirts and size 48 pants for medium shirts and 33-inch pants.

Now, his favorite activities are heavy cardio and weightlifting.

The teen even ran his first half-marathon in April and he’s planning on running another one soon.

His one piece of advice?

Don’t hold back.

If you say you’re going to change your life, do it now.
